The Practice of Sisterhood

Sitting inside of the earth last night with an intimate and potent circle of women, it was palpable…our connections with one another had the sweet flavor of unconditional love. The envy and subtle competition that so often set the undertones within groups of women were dissolved.

At the end of our circle as we sat around the sacred fire, we found our way into more immediate contact with one another through holding of hands or stretching to reach another woman’s knee, or shifting our body weight to see her eyes more clearly in the firelight. These informal spontaneous gestures were an expression of the closeness that we felt from a night of truly being together.

Being is the essence of woman. Without the time and space carved out to actually BE in our femininity, we cannot expect to feel genuinely connected with other women. When women are given the time and space to be authentically expressive, as is the way at our Moon Lodge, trust is what naturally evolves. When all moods and truths of woman are welcome, supported, encouraged and required to come forth; we are honest, vulnerable, and brave enough to speak and live into our own destinies. This level of honesty naturally cultivates trust which is the essential ingredient in the creation of a Sisterhood.

The main reason that we often don’t feel the consistent bond of sisterhood in our lives is simply because we do not practice connection as a way of life in this culture. We practice separateness instead. Without authentic connection how can there be trust? Without trust there is no sisterhood.

Many of us as females, were taught from a young age to hide the more potent aspects of ourselves to avoid revealing perhaps the lack of personal power our ‘elders’ or authority figures held. This repression has caused a deep longing in us as women to feel, express, reveal, and find the best ways to utilize our potency. Each time a woman reveals this inherent Shakti fully in the presence of other women, she invites those women into an invisible sacred space within which, their own feminine potency is welcome as well.

Women, let’s create a snowball effect, or better yet, a tidal wave, or even better ~ a wildfire within! Burning our inhibitions, the walls of separateness, in-authenticity, and the masks we wear with one another, let’s revive sisterhood as a practice. Let’s commit to carving out those spaces within which, we can more fully be ourselves and feel the trust that is just underneath the surface waiting to be revealed.

The truth is, we need one another.

Will you join me in this practice?
